Kohima: Western Sümi Hoho and Western Sümi Kukami Hoho are demanding a ceasefire. The groups want the Government of India and the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) to stop fighting. They released a joint statement on October 31 backing recent peace talks held in Nay Pyi Taw on October 22 between the NSCN-K (Angmai-Mulatonu) and Myanmar’s National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee.
Peace is necessary. The organizations argue that decades of conflict have crippled border communities, stifled trade, ruined infrastructure, and halted public welfare. They insist that lasting progress remains impossible without an inclusive dialogue that brings all active groups to the table.
The groups called for immediate political action. They urged leadership in New Delhi and the NSCN-K (AM) to show foresight and secure a truce to end armed confrontation. The statement noted, "lasting peace could not be achieved in isolation and required all active groups to be brought into constructive engagement." This move would foster regional harmony and set the stage for genuine political reconciliation in Naga-inhabited areas.
