Shillong: The VPP State Youth Wing wants an immediate stop to staff nurse recruitment in West Khasi Hills. They allege that job seekers are paying Rs 4 lakh to secure positions. Interviews for 60 shortlisted candidates are set for September 29 and 30 at the Deputy Commissioner office in Nongstoin. This follows a written exam held on September 21 at Nongstoin College.
VPP president Marbud Dkhar met the Director of Health Services on Monday to demand an inquiry. The party claims several aspirants reported demands for cash. One candidate allegedly paid Rs 1 lakh already. Some families reportedly sold land to scrape together the bribe money. The youth wing claims these payments go to people posing as associates of elected officials. Dkhar stated, "The organisation had urged the DHS to suspend the interview process until the allegations were properly examined."
The DHS promised to discuss the matter with the West Khasi Hills District Medical and Health Officer. Nongstoin MLA Gabriel Wahlang faces scrutiny after an aspirant linked two people associated with him to the scheme. Wahlang denied any role in the demand. He stated that he had no knowledge of any such request and maintained, "I had never asked anyone to pay money for securing employment." The MLA plans to confront the individuals named to clear his name. The VPP insists the process stays frozen until investigators prove the recruitment is clean.
