Violent Robbery and Mob Attack on Police Rock Nagaon District

Guwahati: Criminal activity spiked in Assam's Nagaon district recently. Unidentified thieves ambushed Fakrul Islam in the East Singimari area of Rupohihat. Islam was walking home from the local market when the group stopped him. They hit his leg and stole a bag containing over Rs 2 lakh plus a mobile phone. The thieves vanished before authorities arrived. Rupohihat police are currently investigating the crime.

Separately, a mob turned on police in Geruaati. A team led by Khatowal Police Station officer-in-charge Bishnu Deuri arrived to arrest Rashidul Haque. Haque ignored multiple summons regarding a pending complaint. Family members attacked the officers as tension flared. They beat the team and smashed the police truck. Five personnel were injured in the melee. The wounded include Deuri, Head Constable Azgar Ali, Naik Aridul Islam, Lance Naik Jahangir Ahmed, and driver Sahil Ahmed.

Haque and other suspects escaped during the chaos. Police managed to detain Haque's mother, Hazara Khatun, alongside Imam Hussain and Mahidul Islam. Officials confirmed Haque has a history of legal trouble. One official stated, "Haque had allegedly been summoned to the police station several times in connection with a complaint but did not appear before the police." Investigators are now hunting the fugitives and reviewing his past involvement in cattle smuggling.
