Agartala: Tripura plans to install a high-tech scanner at the Churaibari checkpost. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy confirmed the move on Tuesday. The machine will sit at the Assam-Agartala border to digitize how officials check incoming goods carriers. Manual inspections currently create massive bottlenecks. About 50 to 60 trucks carrying perishable items often sit idle at the gates. This causes significant financial damage to traders.
The minister explained the new system serves two goals. It speeds up traffic and improves security. "The manual checking system is time consuming," Singha Roy stated. Authorities also want to stop traffickers from using the route. The scanner captures owner names, vehicle registration numbers, driver info, and cargo data in real time. Officials will then share this data with the proper agencies to crack down on illegal drugs.
Singha Roy also addressed pay concerns for state workers. The government currently pays 39 percent in Dearness Allowance. A 19 percent gap remains between state and central benefits. The minister cited funding constraints but promised to keep working toward parity. Officials have finished the groundwork for an 8th Pay Commission. They are now searching for a qualified expert to lead the commission.
