Tripura Teacher Training College Plagued by Staff and Hostel Shortages

Agartala: The Government Teacher Training College in Kumarghat sits in a state of neglect. Since 2015, the Tripura institution has struggled to provide basic services to its 350 annual students. The facility relies on a skeleton crew of 17 teachers and insufficient office staff to run the school. Principal Dr. Nibas Chandra Shil says the college needs more help. "The college requires better infrastructure and additional manpower to function efficiently," Shil noted.

Hostel conditions have reached a breaking point. The boys' hostel holds 100 students, but the girls' dorm hits capacity at 65. With more women enrolling, the girls' building is severely overcrowded and short on beds. Students cram into rooms not built for the current population. When the power cuts out, the water stops flowing too. Residents go thirsty during these blackouts.

Administrative oversight remains missing. The government has never appointed a permanent warden for the hostels. Two female faculty members pull double duty to manage the residents. They juggle these tasks alongside their teaching loads. The principal wants the government to build more rooms, hire more office help, and finally assign a warden to the college.
