Agartala: The Tripura government launched plans for a five-kilometre bypass on National Highway-08 to clear traffic jams in Udaipur. Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy inspected the proposed route on Saturday to check land and technical needs. The road will stretch from Bagma to Matabari. It aims to cut congestion and improve access for pilgrims heading to the Tripurasundari Temple.
The route will run through Bagma, Tepania, Jamjuri, and the area near the Udaipur Railway Station. It then ties back into NH-08 near the Matabari Temple. Roy noted the surge in visitors during his visit. He stated, "The number of pilgrims and tourists visiting the Tripurasundari Temple has been increasing steadily, leading to a significant rise in vehicular movement through Udaipur town."
The minister toured the sites with a large team of officials. This group included PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte, National Highways Chief Engineer Subrata Banik, PWD Chief Engineer Anup Das, and Urban Development Director Dr. Tamal Majumdar. Tripura Urban Development Authority Chief Engineer Nitya Kumar Jamatia, NHIDCL representatives, Additional District Magistrate Subhash Acharjee, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tridip Sarkar also joined the site walk. The team will now craft a Detailed Project Report to finalize technical and administrative steps. Officials expect the project to improve traffic flow and drive tourism growth across the region.
