Agartala: The Central Bureau of Investigation took control of a cold case involving a missing Tripura State Rifles soldier. Officials confirmed the shift on November 1. Subhash Chandra Bose, a 27-year-old rifleman from Vengoor in Ernakulam, vanished while riding the Ernakulam-Guwahati Express in April 2012. He served in the force for seven years.

Bose left Ernakulam Junction at 9:20 pm on April 3, 2012. He carried only a general ticket. His father, P K Balan, dropped him off before the train departed. Bose told his father he would seek help from the Travelling Ticket Examiner to find a seat. The man is gone. He called his mother on April 4 to report he reached Andhra Pradesh. He called again on April 5, noting his phone credit was low. He promised to call back after arriving at his post, but the line went dead.

The family realized he never reported to his unit in Dhalai district on April 10. His father filed a report with the Ernakulam Railway Police on April 13. Railway investigators eventually tracked his last known location to Visakhapatnam Railway Station. The Government Railway Police in Visakhapatnam registered the case on October 15, 2012. Following a legal challenge from Balan, the Kerala High Court ordered the federal agency to step in. The CBI Special Crime Branch re-registered the FIR before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on October 28. Authorities said, "The investigation is now being carried out by the central agency."
