Guwahati: Saurav Phukan vanished at Visakhapatnam railway station. The young man from Dhalpur, Lakhimpur district, boarded the 22504 Dibrugarh-Kanniyakumari Vivek Express on October 7. He sought work in Kerala. He stayed in contact with his family for days.

Phukan called home on October 9 to ask for travel money. He spoke to his sister again on October 10. That afternoon, his cousin reported him missing from the station premises. His phone went dark immediately after. The family remains in agony. Phukan is the sole breadwinner for his mother and sister. They asked the government and police to "investigate the case and help bring him home safely."

Tragedy haunts this rail line. Another passenger on the same service met a grim fate recently. On October 7, authorities found the body of Guwahati college student Himashree Boro near tracks between Ponduru and Dusi in Andhra Pradesh. She was traveling on the 22503 Kanniyakumari-Dibrugarh train.
