Agartala: The Tripura School Education Department kicked off a statewide mission to refresh Aadhaar biometric data for students in both government and private schools. Officials deployed 50 trained staff members to manage these free camps. The service covers any student up to 18 years old.
The drive centers on the mandatory biometric update required at ages five and 15. Changes to facial features, irises, and fingerprints occur during these years. Staff must verify these traits now. The state aims for 100 per cent authentication through fingerprint checks.
This initiative follows a successful push by the Directorate of Elementary Education, which previously hit 99 per cent student enrolment by placing centers in every Education Inspectorate. Now, the Directorate of Secondary Education is pushing the update phase to satisfy directives from the Cabinet Secretariat and the Ministry of Education.
Outdated records trigger major headaches. Students face rejected applications or technical glitches during board exams, competitive tests, and college entries. Officials stated, "Failure to complete the mandatory biometric update could result in delays or rejection of applications at critical stages of a student's academic journey."
Keeping databases like UDISE+ accurate remains a top priority. The state wants to stop duplicate enrolments and keep services running smoothly. Proper records ensure students collect Direct Benefit Transfer funds, free uniforms, and Mid-Day Meals without administrative stalls.
