Agartala: The Tripura High Court ordered the Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner to show up in person. Chief Justice MS Ramchandra Rao and Justice Biswajit Palit issued the order during a hearing on illegal animal slaughter across Agartala. The official must appear tomorrow at 10.30 AM. Standing Counsel for the Corporation must notify him immediately.
Petitioner advocate Ankan Tilak Paul challenged the city for ignoring 2022 directives. He submitted a fresh affidavit documenting open slaughter throughout the streets. The court reviewed geo-tagged photos and records of specific shops and unauthorized slaughterhouses. Paul argues the city has failed to enforce basic standards.
The court also questioned the sluggish progress of a new slaughterhouse project in the Durga Chowmuhani area. This site requires specific agency clearances and infrastructure to meet legal requirements. The AMC claims 75 percent of the work is finished. The court remains unimpressed. "The Commissioner of the Agartala Municipal Corporation is directed to appear in person before this Court tomorrow at 10.30 AM positively. The Standing Counsel for the Corporation shall inform the Commissioner of this," the bench ordered.
