Agartala: An Unakoti district court sentenced five Bangladeshi nationals to two years of rigorous imprisonment for sneaking into India. Each convict must also pay a 10,000 rupee fine. Failure to pay triggers two extra months behind bars. Justice was swift.
Police apprehended Imran Hossain, Arman Hossain, and Manir Hossain at the Paiturbazar motorstand in Kailasahar. The trio hailed from the Comilla district. Investigators confirmed they crossed the Rangauti border on February 1 using two Indian touts. They carried no legal travel papers. Authorities charged them under Sections 21/23 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act and the BNS.
In a separate sweep, officers grabbed Shiuli Begam and Sahid Sekh from a house in Kailasahar on June 10 last year. A minor child was with them at the time of the arrest. The pair admitted to the crime during questioning. According to police, the duo told investigators they had entered India illegally and were attempting to return to Bangladesh. The court handed down the same two-year sentence and fine for their role in the illegal entry.
