Police detain 12 Bangladeshi nationals for illegal entry in Goalpara

Guwahati: Police detained 12 Bangladeshi nationals in Goalpara town on Friday night. The group included two children. They stand accused of slipping into India illegally. The arrests occurred after a local hotel owner grew suspicious of their talk and called the cops. He refused to give them rooms.

Officers hauled the entire group to the Goalpara Town Police Station for questioning. They cracked under pressure. The detainees admitted they traveled from the Sylhet district in Bangladesh to Assam. They claim they crossed the border three days before their capture. Authorities formally arrested the group for illegal entry.

The breach points to gaps in border security. Questions now swirl regarding how the group managed to travel deep into the state undetected. Police are keeping quiet on the identities of those in custody. Official investigations continue as the suspects face legal proceedings. One official noted, "The individuals admitted to having come from Bangladesh and were subsequently arrested on suspicion of illegal entry into India."
