Guwahati: Police arrested two men after an acid attack left Ramita Sutradhar in critical condition at her home in Beshimari village. The assault occurred while the victim slept in Dudhnoi, Goalpara district.
Assailants threw acid over a boundary wall before pouring petrol around the house in a failed attempt to set the structure on fire. They fled immediately after. Police identified the suspects as Mustep Rabha, the victim's boyfriend, and his associate Bikram Rabha. Both men live in Hadlapara.
Sutradhar is currently fighting for her life in a hospital. Her father, a daily-wage labourer, faces this tragedy alongside his family's limited financial means. Locals say this is the first such attack in the district. Investigation continues. Authorities are digging into allegations that Bikram Rabha claimed ties to Pabitra Rabha, the MLA from Goalpara West. Senior officers visited the scene to piece together the events. Police currently hold the men for questioning to determine their exact roles. Regarding the suspect's alleged political ties, officials noted: "The claim and whether it has any bearing on the case are part of the investigation."
