Guwahati: A Tinsukia court sent 37-year-old Tushar Goyal to judicial custody on Monday. He faced three days of police interrogation before Special POCSO Judge Mohammad Imdad Ahmad ordered the detention. Police arrested Goyal last Thursday in relation to Tinsukia Sadar Police Station Case No. 1060/2026.
Authorities charged Goyal under multiple statutes including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, and the POCSO Act. Specific charges span sections 61(2), 96, 123, 127(4), 137(2), 143(5), 144(1), 337, and 340(2) of the BNS, plus sections 4, 5, and 6 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act and sections 4 and 17 of the POCSO Act. Investigators identified Goyal as a customer in a wider network.
The probe stems from the earlier arrest of Puja Das. Police label her a key figure in the operation. Total arrests have reached seven people. Officers rescued four minor girls from across the district. These victims were allegedly promised jobs and school before falling into the trap. Sources confirmed: "The rescued girls were allegedly lured with promises of education and employment before being brought into the suspected network."
Detectives are tracing how the traffickers recruited and moved the minors. They are checking hotels and other locations for ties to the crime. Prosecutors must now corroborate evidence gathered during the remand. The court has not established guilt for any of the accused. Officials kept the identities of the minor victims private to follow legal requirements.
