Kohima: Heavy rainfall triggered a trail of destruction across Wokha this week. Roads buckled and earth gave way under the relentless downpour. The NPF Wokha Division toured the wreckage on Wednesday. Acting president Nzanbemo Erui led the site inspection team.

The force of the shifting ground destroyed a retaining wall at the PWD Colony home of Orenthung Odyuo. Odyuo serves as the vice president for the NPF Wokha Division. His newly built house stands in ruins tonight. Mudslides now plague Forest Colony, Lower Etsutchukha, Molonsu, Lakhuti, and the Bhandari sub division.

Party leaders are pushing for immediate action. They want the government to begin relief and mitigation work across the district. The NPF praised Deputy Commissioner K. Mhathung Tsanglao for his response. As chairman of the DDMA Wokha, Tsanglao has been "mobilising emergency line departments to manage the situation and assess damages."
