Agartala: Retired scholars and community leaders gathered Saturday at the Agartala Press Club to demand more power for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. The Assembly of Retired Tribals Intellectuals and Scholars of Tripura organized the session to map out a future for the local governing body. Experts want to expand the council role in managing regional infrastructure and social services.
Former Law Secretary Data Mohan Jamatia told the crowd that local self-governance holds the key to faster progress in tribal areas. He focused on the constitutional authority of the TTAADC to improve education, healthcare, and basic livelihoods. "The empowerment of TTAADC is not merely an administrative reform but a step directly linked to the rights and progress of tribal communities," Jamatia noted.
Key participants included Samir Debbarma, Dr. Satya Ranjan Debbarma, and Dhiraj Debbarma. They debated how to boost communication, jobs, and social infrastructure. The group wants to protect tribal identity while chasing economic gains. Members of the assembly plan to hold more talks to keep the pressure on policymakers for better tribal development.
