Residents Protest Illegal Construction on Nagaon Sattra Land

Guwahati: Residents of Balisatra and Dumdumia near Dhing in Nagaon are demanding action against fresh land encroachment. Locals claim concrete houses are popping up on government and Sattra land in broad daylight. Fear spreads through the community. People want their land back.

The dispute centers on three local Sattras currently under threat. Villagers identified Raihan Uddin and Motibur Rahman as the primary individuals responsible for the land grabs. Specific reports indicate that a large building and several concrete structures have already risen on the grounds of the Sri Sri Banshibadan Bansigopal Murti Upar Dumdumia Sattra.

This land was cleared six months ago. Nagaon district administration ran an eviction drive to clear the area, but the illegal activity restarted. Locals now watch new structures emerge on the exact same plots. Motibur Rahman is also accused of building a separate concrete structure on government land.

"Residents have appealed to the Nagaon district administration to intervene, conduct an inquiry into the alleged encroachments and take appropriate action to protect government and Sattra land." The community wants to know how construction resumed on cleared sites and if anyone issued permits for the work.
