Health Fears Mount Over Herbicide Use in Kaliabor

Guwahati: Farmers in Kaliabor are flooding their fields with chemical weed killers. Roundup, All Clear, and 2,4-D are being sprayed without restraint across agricultural plots and home gardens. The chemicals are everywhere. Lack of basic safety knowledge among local growers drives this unchecked application.

Exposure risks are high. Residents face direct contact through handling or spraying the toxins. Others ingest the poison through contaminated water and food supplies. The substances remain far too easy to buy. Current regulations do little to curb the sales or prevent improper use of these potentially hazardous materials.

Groups and local residents now demand stricter oversight. They want officials to act before more people get sick. While the link between these chemicals and specific diseases requires formal medical testing, the community is not waiting for a study. Concerned locals recently issued a call to action, stating, "Residents and concerned groups have called for increased awareness and appropriate regulatory measures to prevent the indiscriminate use of potentially hazardous herbicides in the region."

Authorities face pressure to boost safety education. Proper storage and application methods are currently ignored. The region needs better monitoring to keep these herbicides away from the dinner table.
