Guwahati: A wounded jackal faced certain death near National Highway 38 in Digboi. Local resident Bikash Bora found the animal Thursday night near Anand Bagh, Tinsukia district. He quickly flagged the situation to wildlife experts.
Rescuers Devajit Moran and Akash Moran rushed to the scene. They coordinated with the Digboi Forest Division to secure the jackal. The team held the animal at the Digboi Forest Range until Friday. They then transferred the patient to the Wildlife Trust of India for medical care.
Assam Environment and Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah confirmed the rescue on October 10. He praised the effort in a social media statement. "This rescue reflects an important principle of wildlife conservation: every life matters, including animals that often receive less attention than larger and more celebrated species," the minister wrote.
Jackals hunt and scavenge. They keep ecosystems healthy. Baruah warned that high-speed traffic and humans threaten these animals near forest roads. Drivers must stay alert. Quick reporting saves lives.
