Guwahati: Local conservationists pulled an injured jackal from the pavement of National Highway 38 near Anand Bagh on Friday. The animal lay near the road in the Digboi Forest Division of Tinsukia, Assam. Bikash Bora spotted the beast Thursday night and reached out for help. Devajit Moran led the effort to pull the animal to safety.

Moran coordinated the rescue alongside Akash Moran. They cleared the plan with the Digboi Divisional Forest Officer to hold the creature at the Digboi Range temporarily. The team contacted the Forest Department again Friday morning to ship the jackal to the Wildlife Trust of India for urgent treatment. Rescuers expect a full recovery and a eventual return to the wild.

Devajit Moran noted the process: "With the help of Bikash Bora and Akash Moran, we rescued the injured jackal and, after discussing the matter with the Digboi Divisional Forest Officer, arranged to keep it at the Digboi Range."

Highways cutting through natural habitats frequently endanger local wildlife. Heavy traffic and human encroachment force animals into dangerous paths. Jackals serve as scavengers and predators in the ecosystem. They roam the Upper Dihing forest area, though no exact population count exists. The Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 grants these animals Schedule I status. This status bans hunting and protects them under strict federal law.
