Guwahati: Forest officials rescued a juvenile Royal Bengal tiger near Notungaon on September 17. The animal appeared in village bushes near Biswanath Ghat by the 6th Addition of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. Locals spotted the cat in the morning. Police and the civil administration helped forest staff cordon off the area to protect the public and the cub.
Teams watched the animal for hours. They hoped the mother would return to claim her stray cub. No signs of another tiger appeared. The rescue team then set up nets to guide the juvenile into a trap cage. The young tiger moved into the cage safely. They avoided chemical drugs because of the animal's age. The cub is now under veterinary care.
Officials aim to release the tiger back into the 6th Addition if its health permits. They credited local residents for keeping their distance during the operation. "The Forest Department also thanked residents of the fringe areas for their cooperation and restraint during the rescue operation, saying their support was crucial to ensuring the safety of both the animal and the community." The 6th Addition remains a vital corridor for wildlife movement.
