Shillong: Forest officials pulled a juvenile Royal Bengal Tiger from the village of Notungaon on Thursday evening. The animal turned up in the bushes near the 6th Addition to Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. Locals spotted the cat early in the morning, prompting a swift response from the Biswanath Wildlife Division, police, and civil administration. They cordoned off the area to keep people and the tiger safe.
Authorities watched the site for hours. They hoped the mother would return for her cub. "However, despite prolonged monitoring, no indication of the presence of another tiger was observed till the evening." The mother never showed up.
The team shifted to a rescue mission once it became clear no reunion would happen. Rescuers set up nets to funnel the cat into a trap cage. It worked. The tiger walked into the cage without any chemical sedation. Staff currently monitor the animal under veterinary care. Officials still want to return the tiger to the wild and will keep trying to find its mother.
