Police Arrest Truck Driver After Fatal Crash on Tiddim Road

Imphal: Two people died and three others suffered serious injuries during a collision on Tiddim Road near Utlou Koubiliya Makhong, not far from Imphal Airport. The wreck involved a commercial truck, registration NL07AA-5416, which witnesses claimed was moving at high speed.

The victims died at the scene. Medics rushed the three survivors to a nearby hospital, where doctors continue to monitor their condition. The truck driver abandoned his vehicle and fled the area to dodge police.

Investigators pulled CCTV footage from cameras along the route to pin down the suspect. They tracked the truck's path and identified the driver as 35-year-old Kshetrimayum Toni Singh of Huidrom Awang Leikai, Pungdongbam. Police arrested Singh, who is held under the jurisdiction of Lamlai Police Station.

"The investigation is continuing," officials stated. Authorities initiated legal proceedings against Singh. Traffic police issued a fresh warning for drivers to obey speed limits on major highways like Tiddim Road to prevent future loss of life.
