Shillong: Shooters from Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills district grabbed three medals at the 13th Northeast Zonal Shooting Championship 2026 in Guwahati. Anthony D. Marak and Rakku D. Momin represented the Shooting Association of North Garo Hills (SANGH) during the event.
Marak topped the 10-metre pistol (MQS) event with a score of 370 out of 400 to take gold. He later secured a bronze in the men’s 50-metre pistol event. Momin also struck gold by winning the men’s 10-metre pistol (NR) event.
SANGH president Davis C.K. Sangma praised the winners for their hard work. He said, "Their success reflected the importance of discipline, dedication and perseverance in the sport."
Sangma believes these wins prove grassroots athletes can reach high levels with proper training. He wants more young people from the A’chik community to pick up the sport. He sees shooting as a clear path from local competitions to national and international stages. The SANGH now aims to find and train more young shooters throughout the region.
