Guwahati: Police shot two men suspected of dragging a woman during a violent bag-snatching attempt in Guwahati. Officers opened fire during an operation between Khanapara and Panjabari, leaving Prashanta Boro and Rahul Das with bullet injuries. Medics rushed both men to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
The suspects attacked the woman at 5:45 am on October 5 in the Janakpur area of Kahilipara. They rolled up on a motorcycle, stalked their target, and tried to rip her bag away. The pair dragged the victim 100 metres along the pavement as they attempted to speed off. She suffered serious injuries during the assault. A nearby CCTV camera recorded the entire crime. The footage hit social media and sparked immediate public outcry over city safety.
Police investigators linked the duo to a second bag-snatching incident in the Lalmatia area earlier that same morning. The hunt for the suspects ended with the police shooting.
