Shillong: Meghalaya is ramping up efforts to host the 39th National Games in 2027. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla met with Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya at his official residence to secure essential support. Shylla traveled with Meghalaya State Olympic Association president John Kharshiing following their recent exposure visit to the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The delegation pressed for the Indian Olympic Association to form the Games Technical Conduct Committee immediately. This body decides which sports make the final cut. Early selection is vital for venue planning and infrastructure needs. "This will help us determine the sporting disciplines and plan effectively," Shylla stated. The state also requested more federal cash to beef up their hosting preparations.

Mandaviya listened to the pitch. He directed the state team to submit further documentation on their current progress. The Union Minister promised to set up a follow-up meeting involving top sports ministry brass and representatives from the Indian Olympic Association to move the process along.
