Meghalaya Budgets Rs 600 Crore for 2025 National Games

Shillong: Meghalaya plans to drop Rs 600 crore to host the 39th National Games this coming March. Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Wailadmiki Shylla confirmed the National Games Committee finalized this estimate on Tuesday. The state government already sent formal requests for funding to the Union Government.

Rain threatens the construction timeline. Crews continue work despite the heavy monsoon season. The state expects to finish all facilities by December or January to ensure venues are ready before the opening ceremonies. "However, the work is going on and we are confident that all the infrastructure would be ready by December or January before the Games," Shylla said.

Other North East states will share the load by co-hosting specific sports. While the state pushes hard on facility prep, it also leaves training in the hands of individual sports bodies. Associations can choose to send athletes abroad for training, though the program remains optional for participants. The state claims these international stints help locals sharpen their skills against top national-level talent.
