Shillong: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui broke ground on a new government school building and village playground in Thangbuli, West Jaintia Hills, this Saturday. He also opened a digital library for local youth. The school upgrade costs Rs 70.18 lakh under Mission Education Phase IV. It aims to modernize the Thangbuli Government LP School.
Work also started on a Rs 1.22 crore project to renovate the village playground. The site will feature a covered sitting gallery and new amenities. Rymbui also cut the ribbon on the Children and Adolescents Digital Library. This Rs 17.19 lakh facility operates under the SRES-BID scheme. It mixes traditional books with digital tools.
Rymbui spoke to the local crowd about the future. "Nurturing talent in both academics and sports is vital for the state’s progress," he said. He told the youth to use these new platforms to gain self-reliance.
The event hosted the start of the 1st Amwi Higher Secondary School Knock-Out Football Tournament. School representative Disuk Tariang used the moment to detail the school’s financial struggles. He asked the government to add the school to the Ad hoc grant system. Local MDC Medling Swer and Assistant Director of Sports K. Passah attended the event. They pushed the athletes to aim for contests beyond the state borders.
