Kohima: Niuland department heads must cough up 5,000 rupees each by August 15, 2026. Deputy Commissioner T L Kiusumong Tikhir chaired the District Planning and Development Board meeting on July 28 to enforce the levy. The money funds ceiling repairs at the Multipurpose Hall cum Auditorium of GHS Aqhunag. EAC Aghunaqa, who serves as Border Magistrate, holds the collection duties.
Board members can donate more than the required amount. Tikhir demanded a full report on how the cash gets spent before the next session. Infrastructure failures remain a major headache for the district. The board specifically pointed to bridge and road connectivity troubles in the Aghunaqa area.
The PWD Dimapur Division flagged major soil erosion issues affecting local routes. Officials cleared the proposal for the 6-kilometer Nitozu-Pihekhu Road, sending it for technical review. Meanwhile, the Niuland Town Council Chairman demanded action on the road between 4th Mile, New Showuba and Niuland. The DC ordered the Urban Development and PWD departments to work together on repairs. "Priority given to filling potholes in selected stretches," officials noted regarding the damaged pavement.
The board also pushed through Local Area Development Programme schemes for the 2026-2027 cycle for Ghaspani-1. V Vikugha Sema of the Land Resources department briefed the board on their current mission. The department now centers its efforts on "Coffee Development, Rubber Development, Arecanut Development, and Springshed Management as key developmental activities."
