Agartala: National Commission for Women Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar arrived in Tripura this week for a three-day tour focused on women's safety and welfare. She opened her visit Tuesday with a high-level talk at the State Guest House in Agartala. Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy joined her to discuss how to boost women's leadership and participation in society.
Rahatkar traveled to Udaipur on Wednesday to join the Gomati Zilla Parishad’s She Serves program. She inspected the local One Stop Centre and spoke at a Rajarshi Hall event regarding the social impact of child marriage. Minister Tinku Roy and MLA Abhishek Debroy attended. Following these events, she held a review meeting with district administration and police to drill down on crime prevention.
She demanded results. She called for the "prompt investigation of cases involving crimes against women and children" during the meeting with the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police. Rahatkar also pushed for better coordination between government departments to keep schemes running effectively.
Tripura Women’s Commission Chairperson Jharna Debbarma confirmed the rest of the schedule alongside Vice Chairperson Madhumita Choudhury and Member Secretary Pallabi Roy. On July 30, Rahatkar will tour Agartala Central Jail. She will then meet with the acting Director General of Police and senior leadership. Later, she plans to launch the official website for the Tripura State Women’s Commission at a city hotel and attend a stalking prevention event. She wraps up the trip at Sukanta Academy, where she will lead a workshop on preventing workplace sexual harassment.
