Kohima: The All Nagaland Taxi Association Dimapur unit is losing patience. They are demanding the state government and Transport Department stop stalling on the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) rollout. Owners are paying a heavy price. Hundreds of commercial vehicle operators sit idle because they cannot finish registration paperwork without these required devices.
Some owners bought their rigs seven months ago. They have earned nothing since. The financial drain is hitting families hard, leading to lost income and mounting stress. ANTA president Ghunato Chophy and general secretary Vinito Assumi noted that the Supreme Court of India ordered this system to boost passenger safety and public transit accountability. Nagaland ignored the order. The delay creates a mess for insurance claims and statutory compliance, leaving drivers exposed to avoidable legal and financial risks.
ANTA maintains that the system improves monitoring, emergency response, and general transparency. The association wants the state to move fast. "The association appealed to the Government of Nagaland and the Transport Department to implement the system at the earliest to prevent further hardship for commercial vehicle owners," the group stated. Officials need to authorize installation shops and clear the registration backlog immediately. ANTA promised full cooperation to get the job done.
