Kohima: Nagaland Higher Education and Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along addressed a crowd of new students on Thursday. The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya hosted the event at its Central Auditorium for the orientation programme 2026. The ceremony aimed to motivate incoming learners as they start their academic careers.
Along spoke about the power of education. He pushed the students to build confidence and character while managing their time wisely. He told the audience, "USTM is truly a centre of traditions, oneness and unity. The whole Northeast is at USTM." The minister emphasized how these young people must help their region and the country.
USTM Chancellor and ERDF Chairman Mahbubul Hoque welcomed the minister and the new class. The university holds an A Grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council after its 2021 review. Vice Chancellor Prof. G. D. Sharma closed the session with a vote of thanks.
The university opened in 2011. It stands as the first private school for science and technology in North East India. It continues to focus on teaching, research, and community work.
