Nagaland Library Association Urges Support for Librarians

Kohima: The Nagaland Library Association (NLA) prepares to mark National Librarians' Day on August 12, 2026. This date honors the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the man known as the Father of Library Science in India. The NLA sent out official greetings to state professionals for their ongoing work in education and information services.

Library workers struggle. They face a lack of professional opportunities, poor support, and limited recognition. The NLA wants this to change. They are pushing rural libraries and individual professionals to register or renew their memberships now. This move aims to build a stronger collective voice across the state.

The NLA pledged to provide guidance and technical development for libraries throughout Nagaland. They demand that policymakers, schools, and the public view libraries as key drivers of growth. According to the NLA, they are calling on these groups to "investment in infrastructure, professional recognition and better service conditions."
