Kohima: Commissioner and Secretary Kekhrievor Kevichusa kicked off the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign at the Directorate of Urban Development in Kohima on September 17. The initiative rallies communities to address waste management. Success requires a unified effort from all stakeholders.
Kevichusa noted the difficulty of managing waste during his address. He admitted, "It often becomes a losing effort." To fix this, he urged officials and citizens to embrace new ideas and share the workload to keep the nation clean.
The campaign centers on the theme Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat. It relies on five specific pillars. These include cleaning public spots, youth engagement, protecting sanitation workers, boosting public participation, and linking cleanliness to prosperity.
Director Tarachu Fithu chaired the launch event. He organized the program alongside SM(U) and SBM-Grameen. The drive bridges the gap between today and October 2, which marks Swachh Bharat Diwas. A State Level Coordination Committee formed on September 16 will oversee the work. This committee includes members from the health, education, tourism, and rural development departments alongside various NGOs. The campaign covers all of Nagaland through October 2.
