Kohima: Students from the Chumoukedima Dance and Fit Studio took to the streets on September 26. They performed flash mobs at the Saturday Market, the Jack and Jill Shopping Mall, and CT Square. The Chumoukedima Town Council organized these shows to push for four-way solid waste segregation. Town officials want better compliance with the 2026 Solid Waste Management Rules and the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative.
The event aimed to turn trash disposal into a standard civic duty. T. Lemlila Sangtam, the ADC and Executive Officer for the council, believes residents must step up. She stated that the activity was intended to make solid waste management a civic minded and accountability driven public responsibility.
Sangtam pressed for active public cooperation. She pushed the Polluter Pays principle, forcing those who make waste to handle its cleanup. The council now asks all residents, shops, and institutions to sort their trash at the source. Their goal is to shrink waste output and keep the town clean.

T. Lemlila Sangtam now carries the official title of ADC (HQ) and Executive Officer for the council. The initiative explicitly targets all commercial establishments and local stakeholders to join residents in the cleanup effort.
