Kohima: The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) closed out its Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign on October 2. The event took place at the Chief Engineer's office in Kohima. Minister for Public Health Engineering and Cooperation Jacob Zhimomi attended alongside department secretaries, senior officers, and various local stakeholders.

The campaign ran from September 17 to October 2. It operated under the theme Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat. Activities focused on waste management, community outreach, and sanitation worker welfare.

Divisions across the region showed off creative projects. Dimapur Rural led waste to wealth initiatives, turning trash into furniture, brooms, and even a functional waste collection vehicle made from an old motorcycle. Tuensang hosted medical camps specifically for Safai Mitras. In Medziphema, students built bamboo dustbins and received training as Swachhata Ambassadors. Noklak utilized a community tug of war to teach waste segregation, while Phek organized clean-up efforts at Glory Peak to support sustainable tourism.

Officials presented awards for Swachhata Champion and Best Performing ODF Plus Model Village during the culmination. Jacob Zhimomi addressed the crowd regarding the ongoing nature of the mission. "Sanitation was a lifelong priority requiring continuous strengthening and renewed efforts to ensure benefits reach even the remotest villages," Zhimomi stated. He urged for a fundamental shift in public mindset to hit development goals.

The department extended thanks to Village Councils, WATSAN committees, youth groups, and citizens for their support. The day ended with a tree plantation and cleaning project titled Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam.
