Kohima: Medical teams fanned out across Kohima and Kiphire on September 30, 2026. They held free medical camps for sanitation workers and government staff. The events aimed to bolster health access for those serving the public.
In Kohima, the Kohima Municipal Council hosted a camp at its office for sanitation staff. The effort fell under the Safaimitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir banner. Doctors and nurses from the Chief Medical Officer’s office ran the show. They brought in support from the Mobile Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre and the District Tuberculosis Centre. The council opened the doors to family members too. They run these camps yearly because of the risks workers face from waste exposure. KMC noted that "such initiatives were vital for the health and well being of sanitation workers."
Meanwhile, Akehda Amulung and Atsikeh Trust held a separate session at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kiphire. They focused on office staff. The team logged 49 outpatient consultations and performed 14 laboratory tests. Longtili C. Sangtam, who founded Akehda Amulung, linked the work to Sustainable Development Goal 3. He promised more community health services in the future. The founder of Atsikeh Trust argued that early checkups catch problems before they grow. The organizers thanked the DC office for hosting the event.
