Nagaland Faces Heavy Rain and Storms Through August 9

Kohima: Nagaland residents should brace for widespread thunderstorms and heavy rain. The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority predicts turbulent weather across the state starting August 6 and continuing through August 9. Expect conditions to worsen by August 7. Authorities warn of potential landslides, flash floods, and mudslides in low-lying and riverine areas.

Thunderstorms and light rain hit most districts on August 6. Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Tuensang, and Wokha face scattered rain. Tseminyu and Zunheboto see storms with moderate rain. Kiphire and Meluri remain clear. The agency stated, "No active weather warnings are expected over Kiphire and Meluri" for the day.

Weather ramps up on August 7. Chümoukedima and Dimapur deal with localized thunderstorms. Mokokchung, Peren, Wokha, and Longleng get heavier rain. August 8 marks the peak of the storm activity. Regarding Zunheboto, the authority noted, "Zunheboto may witness localized thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall at scattered locations." Kiphire, Tseminyu, Tuensang, and Peren also face light to moderate rain that day.

Activity tapers off on August 9. Wokha and Peren keep seeing scattered rain. Kiphire, Mon, and Zunheboto expect localized thunderstorms. The NSDMA urges motorists to drive carefully on hilly, landslide-prone roads. Stay away from swollen streams and waterlogged streets to avoid falling rocks or trapping.
