Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority predicts a wet spell hitting the state from July 28 through July 31. Expect heavy rain, lightning, and thunderstorms. Residents in low-lying and landslide-prone areas need to stay alert.
Weather hits on July 28 with scattered thunderstorms and light rain. Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha, and Zunheboto face moderate rain, while Mokokchung and Tseminyu should prepare for moderate to heavy downpours. Intensity builds on July 29. Kohima will see thunderstorms and heavy to very heavy rain at isolated spots. Mon, Noklak, Peren, Tseminyu, and Zunheboto will see widespread rainfall.
Conditions shift on July 30. Tuensang faces isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall. Most other districts will see lighter rain. By July 31, conditions improve across many areas with only light to moderate rain at a few locations. Meluri, Mokokchung, Phek, Peren, Tseminyu, Wokha, and Zunheboto will still see isolated storms. Kiphire, Noklak, and Shamator currently have no active warnings for the final day of the forecast.
The authority warns everyone to stay off open ground during storms. Exercise caution while traveling. The agency advised that citizens "remain vigilant and avoid open areas, particularly in landslide-prone and low-lying zones."
