Kohima: The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority issued a weather alert covering September 4 to 7. Expect thunderstorms, lightning, and rain statewide. Rain intensity will climb through the week. Heavy to moderate-heavy downpours hit multiple districts on the final day.
Wednesday kicks off with thunderstorms and light to moderate rain in Kiphire, Kohima, Meluri, Mon, Noklak, Phek, Shamator, and Zunheboto. Longleng, Niuland, Tseminyu, Tuensang, and Wokha see similar showers. Dimapur, Mokokchung, Peren, and Chumoukedima face lighter rain or overcast skies.
Weather worsens Thursday. Kiphire, Longleng, Meluri, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, Tuensang, and Zunheboto get thunder and rain. Kohima, Mokokchung, and Phek expect lightning and light rain. Dimapur, Niuland, and Peren face thunderstorm risks. Wokha and Tseminyu expect light rain.
Friday brings thunderstorms and moderate rain to Kohima, Phek, and Zunheboto. Kiphire, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, Tseminyu, and Tuensang share similar patterns. Dimapur, Longleng, and Niuland see lightning and light rain. Wokha gets moderate rain while Chumoukedima and Peren report light precipitation.
The agency placed several districts on high alert for September 7. Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha, and Zunheboto will face heavy to moderate-heavy rain. Other areas expect lighter showers.
Mon tops the cumulative rainfall forecast at 150.11 mm. Tuensang follows at 149.38 mm, Zunheboto at 140.52 mm, Phek at 136.29 mm, Noklak at 131.93 mm, Tseminyu at 131.62 mm, and Meluri at 130.81 mm. Shamator and Kohima round out the totals at 125.72 mm and 119.92 mm respectively. The authority stated, "The NSDMA advised the public to regularly monitor the latest weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and the NSDMA Weather Portal."
