Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav flagged off a motorcycle rally at the Assam Rifles Garrison Helipad in Kohima on July 25. The event marked the 27th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Organizers dubbed the ride, Ride to Remember. Ride to Honour. It honored the 1999 Kargil War veterans.
The rally specifically commemorated Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, a Nagaland native awarded the Maha Vir Chakra posthumously. The Maha Vir Chakra is India's second-highest wartime gallantry award. Before the riders departed, Governor Yadav met with the captain's parents to acknowledge their son's sacrifice. Major General H S Mavi, the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), attended the morning ceremony.
Bikers rode through Phulbari, Teen Patti, High School Junction, IG Stadium, Chieswema, and Nerhema. Participants included Assam Rifles personnel, veterans, and local clubs. Groups like The Tribe Motorcycle Club, Taho Bikers, Mods on Kohima, and Royal Sons Nagaland joined the ranks.
The route ended at the Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse Memorial in Nerhema village. His parents greeted the riders upon arrival. Dignitaries and veterans held a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the site. The day closed with an address on the enduring legacy of Kargil heroes. Organizers presented mementoes to all participants, reinforcing the military's intent to "strengthen enduring civil-military cooperation across the Northeast."
