High Court Halts Investigation Into Dimapur Businessman

Kohima: The Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench put a temporary stop to an investigation against Dimapur businessman Nirmal Kumar Jain. Justice Helen Daungliani issued the order on November 2. Police must pause all activity until the next court date on November 26.

Jain is fighting to quash an FIR filed by the Dimapur Naga Students Union. The union claims Jain lied to get a Non-Naga Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate back on March 14, 2002. They link this document to questionable land deals. The FIR includes charges of cheating by personation, cheating, and harboring an offender under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Jain denies the accusations. His legal team filed the petition under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The court ordered the state to hand over a scanned copy of the case diary. Jain must file an extra affidavit with the FIR attached within the week. As the legal battle drags on, the union expressed frustration with the pace of the process. The court order noted: "The Court has not yet decided the petition seeking quashing of the FIR."
