Kohima: Assam Rifles staged a motorcycle rally in Kohima on July 25 to mark the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event honored the service and sacrifice of soldiers during the Kargil War. Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav flagged off the riders at the Assam Rifles Garrison Helipad.
The rally held special significance for the local community. It honored Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, a Nagaland native and Maha Vir Chakra recipient. Before the start, Governor Yadav met with the late officer's parents. Major General H S Mavi, the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North), also attended the ceremony.
Riders included Assam Rifles personnel, veterans, local motorcycle club members, and civilians. They rode to the Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse Memorial in Nerhema. The fallen soldier's parents greeted the group during a flag-in ceremony. Attendees then held a solemn wreath-laying service.
Officials used the event to boost patriotism and strengthen ties between the military and local society. The organizers credited the participants for the rally's success, noting that the "brave officer" displayed exceptional courage during the conflict. Mementoes were handed out to supporters as the event closed with a tribute to the legacy of the Kargil heroes.
