Guwahati: Morigaon district hosted a week of intensive sericulture training from August 6 to 13. The Central Silk Board and the Morigaon Department of Sericulture led the Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan 2.0 initiative. They wanted better silk production. Dr. Plabani Roy from the CSB-CSRTI in Berhampore and Sujeeta Kalita, an extension officer, ran the show.
The push started with a District Stakeholder Consultation Meeting to map out growth for Eri and Mulberry silk. Field days hit Dhupguri and Charaibahi. Teams held awareness drives in Mikirgaon, Tukunabari, Killing, and Ouzari. Taptola farmers learned about integrated systems and plant management, while a demo in Bhumuraguri showed off new technology.
Experts covered crop management and modern tools. Farmers spoke directly to the staff about their daily hurdles. This push aims to boost local livelihoods through better methods. Officials hope these sessions change how the region farms. "The MRMA 2.0 outreach is aimed at strengthening farmer awareness, encouraging the adoption of improved and sustainable sericulture practices and creating better livelihood opportunities for sericulture farmers across Morigaon district."
