MLA Claims 10,000 Garo Warriors Backed Tirot Sing Against British

Shillong: West Shillong MLA Paul Lyngdoh claims 10,000 Garo warriors fought alongside Khasi chief U Tirot Sing Syiem. This alliance took place during the 1826 resistance against British expansion. The revelation points to deep early solidarity between the indigenous communities of Meghalaya. It suggests broader participation in the fight against colonial forces than previously recorded.

Lyngdoh brought up the historical account on Wednesday. He spoke during his formal induction into the National People’s Party. He stated, "10,000 Garo warriors fought alongside Tirot Sing."

The legislator explained his findings on Thursday. He gathered the data from a few historians. He intends to publish the supporting evidence in a collection of essays. That book hits shelves next month. The account adds a fresh perspective to the history of the rebellion by linking the Khasi-Pnar and Garo people.
