Dhar Pushes NPP Candidate for Shillong Seat

Shillong: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar is rallying support for NPP candidate Dr. DRL Nonglait in the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election. He insists that electing an MP from the ruling party is the only way to guarantee progress. Voters need alignment. An opposition representative would only trigger political gridlock, ultimately harming the public.

Dhar spoke Thursday night at a massive rally in Mihmyntdu. He touted the academician's career, noting his past experience managing 88 to 90 colleges. Dhar claimed the candidate is delaying retirement to serve the public interest. “If we get an MP from the Opposition, when we work he will oppose and when he works we will oppose. Who will suffer? You, the public,” Dhar told the crowd.

The Urban Affairs Minister touted a mountain of infrastructure spending to bolster his pitch. He pointed to 20,000 crore rupees worth of projects currently in the works for New Shillong. East Jaintia Hills is also seeing growth. Projects totaling 500 crore rupees are underway, with 400 crore going to Santa Mary Shylla’s constituency and 80 crore to Kyrmen Shylla’s territory.

A massive greenfield project is also on the horizon. The 166-km Lad Umroi-Ratacherra road carries a 21,700 crore rupee price tag. Roughly 80 percent of that route runs through Jaintia Hills. Health Minister and Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla joined other local leaders and party workers at the event to back the NPP bid.
