Former MP Kharlukhi Urges ICFAI University to Prioritize Values Over Degrees

Shillong: Universities need to stop chasing degrees and start building better citizens. Former Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Wanwei Roy Kharlukhi delivered this message Thursday in Nongrim Hills. He spoke at a ceremony where the Department of Posts, Meghalaya Division, released a special postal cover honoring ICFAI University Meghalaya.

The university must focus on values. Kharlukhi argued that an institution proves its worth by enlightening students and prepping them for society. He referenced the school theme, Empowering Youth and Building Futures. He wants the university to drive more research into the political and economic history of the Northeast. Local partnerships matter. Research must produce real results for the community.

Kharlukhi praised the school for helping poor students access higher education. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Alicia Gatphoh outlined the mission to keep schooling affordable and slash financial stress for local families. She highlighted the ICFAI Society policy of offering free tuition to students who lose their parents mid-degree. Regarding the institution's role, Kharlukhi said, "An institution’s true value lies in its ability to enlighten students and prepare them to contribute positively to society."
