Aizawl: A Serchhip district court judge sentenced RT Lalhlimpuia to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on August 2. Judge Julie Lalrinzami found the Thenzawl resident guilty of sexually assaulting a minor in 2023. He broke the law.

The court ordered the convict to pay a fine of Rs 2 lakh. If he fails to pay this amount, he will serve an additional year behind bars. This sentence follows the July 17 verdict delivered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Court records confirmed that Lalhlimpuia remains a defendant in a separate child sexual assault case. That matter is still pending trial before the same court. Officials involved in the case noted that the judiciary continues its efforts to ensure "stringent punishment in cases involving crimes against children."
