Aizawl: A Serchhip district court slammed RT Lalhlimpuia with 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on August 2. The Thenzawl resident sexually assaulted a minor in 2023. Additional District and Sessions Judge Julie Lalrinzami handed down the sentence on July 17 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The court ordered a Rs 2 lakh fine. Failure to pay triggers an additional year behind bars. Lalhlimpuia is currently facing another child sexual assault case. The same court is handling that pending trial. An official noted the judgment, stating, "The convict, RT Lalhlimpuia, a resident of Thenzawl, was found guilty by Additional District and Sessions Judge Julie Lalrinzami on July 17 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act."
