Kohima: The Meteorological Centre Kohima finished its Swachhta Pakhwada initiative on July 15. The two-week event ran from July 1 across the region. Staff from the India Meteorological Department and the Ministry of Earth Sciences led the project. They aimed to push environmental responsibility and better hygiene habits.
The effort kicked off with a mandatory Swachhta Pledge. Officials then moved to a Shramdan drive, clearing trash and planting greenery around their office grounds. The agency held a drawing competition at Government Higher Secondary School in Diphupar, Chümoukedima. Kids drew their ideas for a greener India.
Nalnish Kumar Chaudhary, the Scientist D and head of the centre, spoke at the closing event on Wednesday alongside the school principal. They talked about how weather science connects to public health. Chaudhary told the crowd, "highlighting the link between meteorology, environmental health, and community hygiene."
Winners of the art contest received cash prizes and certificates during the ceremony. A mass rally followed the awards. Students, teachers, and IMD staff marched through the streets. They carried banners and chanted slogans to promote waste management and cleaner living to the local public.
